Punjab Vigilance Bureau nabs Sub Inspector for taking Rs. 50,000 bribe

*Accused police personal previously received Rs. one lakh bribe

Amritsar :  The Vigilance Bureau (VB) of Punjab on Monday apprehended a Sub Inspector (SI) Kulwant Singh , posted at economic offences wing, police commissionerate office, Amritsar red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said the accused SI has been arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Suraj Mehta, a resident of Gopal Das Road, Amritsar. The complainant has approached the VB and reported that the said police official has been demanding to pay a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to facilitate his father in joining the police investigation after getting interim stay on his arrest from the High Court and to help in getting regular bail in this case. The complainant alleged to the VB that the said SI has already took Rs. one lakh in another case registered by his father against the partners in their joint firm.

The spokesperson further added that following a preliminary investigation into the complaint, a VB team from the Amritsar range laid a trap and SI Kulwant Singh was apprehended red-handed in the presence of two official witnesses while receiving a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from complainant.

He informed that a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused police official at the VB Police Station, Amritsar Range. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
