RTO & Inspector arrested, network of agents & transporters on vigilance radar in Haryana

During three  days police remand, State Vigilance Bureau (SVB) team from Karnal collected large number of evidences  as regard corrupt practices by a network of agents and transporters in Ambala, Karnal, Yamunanagar and Panchkula districts in which vigilance department arrested RTO Ramit Yadav an HCS officer of 2020 batch originally hailing from Jhajjar and Inspector at Karnal Jasmer who was a Kabaddi player joined service in 2012 when both were found involved in embezzlements getting monthly from the owners of overloaded vehicles carrying sand, stone and dust collected from illegal mining in the area. SVB team during three days police remand collected a dairy containing large number of evidences as regard corrupt practices by both arrested officers as well as a chain of agents, contractors and transporters running illegal activities in the area having shelter by influential persons as well as political leaders now on vigilance radar.

Information also reveals that vigilance team conducted raids twice in 24 hours at the official residence of Ramit Yadav in PWD Colony Ambala Cantt and during search recovered currency notes of value worth Rs 10.24 lakh, a personal dairy and a tab. Raiding team entered the house quickly and took Ramit Yadav into their possession, brought him to their office at Karnal along with the security guard Roop Singh within 25 minutes where the alleged accuse was interrogated for several hours. Vigilance team again raided Yadav’s Ambala residence on the same evening and also called entire Enforcement team of the department at vigilance office Karnal for investigation and recoded the statement of all team members.

Preliminary investigation by SVB revealed that both Yadav and Jasmer were having a network of agents to operate illegal practices after collecting monthly from contractors as well as transporters not to check their overloaded vehicles containing material illegally collected through illegal mining. During investigation when both Yadav and Jasmer failed to provide satisfactory information required by the vigilance department were arrested on the order of SVB Director General Shatrujit Kapoor and an SIT  was constituted  comprising of  Narender Kadian DSP, Inspector Sachin and Inspector Amit  to investigate the case.

According to vigilance report action was taken against five agents so far from whom amount worth Rs 71 lakh was recovered and action will be taken against all those involved in this case. Meanwhile, according to a senior advocate Surjit dealing in corruption cases, merely arresting officers involved in corruption will not solve the problem until immediate decision as regard punishment is taken against them. He said, usually such cases linger on for a long time dumped in files just for an eyewash in the absence of cooperation from senior bureaucrats. He gave example of two senior government officers at Karnal a Tehsildar Rajbux and District Town Planner Vikram both were arrested by the vigilance department allegedly involved in corruption but no action has been taken against them so far.
