Special campaign against criminals extorting money in the case of honeytrap in Haryana & Punjab

Increasing cases of sex exploitation and extorting money in honeytrap cases since the past few years worry police in Haryana and Punjab states. Under the special campaign being run against criminals, the CIA staff of the district Narwana police has achieved great success in arresting 2 accused including a woman by taking major action in the case of extorting Rs 8 lakh in a recent case of honeytrap. The arrested accused have been identified as Balindra son Suba Singh resident Kahsun and a woman. On January 8, 2025, a woman had registered a case of rape against Manish in Police Station Sadar Narwana, the investigation of the case was being investigated by the Deputy Superintendent of Police Narwana. The mother of alleged accused Manish submitted an application to the police that the woman accusing him of rape demanding Rs 8 lakh from her family in exchange for settling the case and Rs 1 lakh has been taken by her in advance. The investigation of the case was handed over to the CIA in-charge Narwana. 

The CIA in-charge formed a team under the leadership of ASI Ramesh Kumar who noted down the serial numbers of currency notes of the remaining amount and handed them over to the complainant woman, calling her to a grocery shop in Uchana Kalan village to collect the amount. As soon as the accused took money from the complainant, the CIA team in plain clothes conducted a raid and arrested the accused on the spot along with currency notes. A case has been registered against the accused under FIR number-63, sections 308(2), 308(6), 61(2) BNS at Uchana police station. Theywoman along with her companions were produced in the court and taken on remand. The preliminary investigation revealed that a honey trap gang busted for extorting money, used to trap financially rich people in their net, involve them in sexual relationships, make objectionable videos and blackmail them.

Talking to media persons on Monday, DSP Amit Kumar said that this 39-year-old woman from Kurukshetra district who trapped people in honeytrap was married in Uchana area. The woman has a son and a daughter. The woman’s husband died 12 years ago due to illness. After this, the woman came in contact with a person and they started the game of extorting money by threatening to trap her in a honeytrap. Initially, a young man was trapped and after befriending him for three months, she had sex with him and made a video of it. Later, blackmailing him, she gave a complaint to the police to register a rape case. Within a few days, she took five lakh rupees from the young man in the name of settlement and withdrew the complaint. After the settlement with the young man, the accused woman asked for a lift to go to Narwana. After taking a lift, she started talking to him after exchanging phone numbers with him, both of them met. Within four months, she also filed a complaint of rape against him and demanded eight lakh rupees in the name of settlement. In another case, a woman asked a man for his phone number and started talking to him. After a few days, they met and then the woman lodged a complaint against him also in the police station by threatening him in rape case and extorted Rs 6 lakh from him. DSP Amit Kumar said that names of many more people can come out during the remand period. The accused woman used to change her target every six months. The accused woman’s accomplices in the gang used to make recordings and pressurize her for a compromise.

Another gang that blackmailed people through honeytrap and extorted money from them has been busted in Punjab also. Sri Muktsar Sahib Police has named 8 accused out of which 6 have been arrested including two women. The gang members used to make video calls through women, make objectionable videos of people and blackmail them to extort money from them. Two accused including a woman are still absconding in this case. A case has been registered against the accused under various sections in Sadar Police Station Muktsar. Three people including a woman have already been arrested in the cases. While talking to media persons, SSP Dr. Akhil Chaudhary said that a person named Gurpreet Singh, a resident of a village under Police Station Sadar, lodged a complaint that a gang is active in the area which is honey trapping people and extorting money from them.

SSP said the police conducted a thorough investigation using human intelligence and technical surveillance to trace multiple sources, arrested eight persons have been identified as Harjinder Singh alias Arshdeep Singh resident of Chak Giljewala, Jasmel Singh resident of village Sukhna Ablu, Bhola Singh resident of Asha Buttar, Boota Singh a resident of Buttar and Nempal alias Gora Singh resident of Chak Beed  Sarkar, Sandeep Kaur wife of Jagmeet Singh resident of Doda currently residing at Chowking Wali Gali Muktsar and Manjit Kaur wife of Bhola Singh resident of Asha Buttar, Nimmo wife of Gora Singh resident of Asha Buttar.  SSP said that among them, Harjinder Singh alias Arshdeep Singh, Jasmel Singh, Bhola Singh, Gora Singh, Sandeep Kaur, Manjit Kaur have been arrested. While Buta Singh and Nampal alias Nimmo are being searched for.

SSP said that FIRs have been registered against most of the accused in past also., whereas few are wanted in the criminal case in police stations in the area allegedly have extorted lakhs of rupees from people so far. He said, as in-depth investigation will be done to find out how many people they have trapped in their net and how many people are involved with them. The SSP said that the investigation is ongoing and it is expected that other victims will also come forward, who have remained silent till now due to fear, shame or social stigma. The police is continuing its operation to uproot this entire gang network.
