Parliament Security handed over to CISF, changes in the security due to recent Security breach

New Delhi : Delhi Police has removed from Parliament security duties. In the wake of the December 13 incident, the Center has decided to hand over the security of the Parliament premises to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). 

A security survey and review of the  Parliament House incident, was carried out by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. According to sources, Union Home ministry has given its in-principle approval to hand over the security of the Parliament building to CISF security and fire-fighting forces following the Government Buildings Act. Incidentally, both Delhi Police and CISF are controlled by Amit Shah’s ministry.

In general, a special team of Delhi Police is responsible for the security of the Sansad Bhavan premises. A team of CRPF jawans is in charge of security outside Parliament. Apart from this, there are fire brigade and CISF units in the Sangsad Bhavan premises to deal with emergency situations. The Intelligence Wing of the Delhi Police was responsible for monitoring the security of Parliament.

There are a total of four rings of security on the way to the Lok Sabha main chamber. After crossing the four-level security, the intruders entered the Lok Sabha and jumped from the audience seat to the floor of the house. Sources said, Many security experts have labeled this as a ‘serious security lapse’. According to them, the security cordon of the CISF force, which is responsible for the security of various airports, sea and river ports and industrial areas of the country, is much tighter. Apart from that, the CISF force has special training in fire fighting also.

After the security breach incident of the parliament building The Parliament Secretariat has sent a letter to the Union Home Ministry and has given a set of proposals to tighten the security of the Parliament building. The list includes measures ranging from installing body scanners to screen entrants and designating separate entrances for MPs, parliament staff, journalists and visitors.

Apart from that, there will be a new  system to prevent anyone from jumping from the audience seats to the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha floor. A glass wall will install between the main floor of the house and the audience seats. It has also been decided to increase the number of security guards during the session to prevent reckless behavior by the audience, a source in the Lok Sabha Secretariat said. Parliament will remain closed to visitors until new security measures are put in place. Apart from this, the proposal calls for speedy introduction of smart cards for entry of MPs.
