Affordable Generic medicines to reach rural Last-mile soon Davaindia

Mumbai: All rural areas of India and the poor will soon be deriving the benefits of “high-quality yet affordable” generic medicines, as Zota Healthcare Ltd envisions “redefining the Indian retail pharmacy landscape” in this regard. 

Dr Sujit Paul, Group CEO of Zota Healthcare Ltd, said here recently that Davaindia’s mission is bring about a +sea change+ in the health sector through making “affordable, high-quality generic medicines accessible to all citizens of India including in remote areas, especially amid the daily rising costs of the Indian healthcare sector and branded medicines.+ 

Highlighting the company’s “DavaIndia” vision and milestones for achievement in 2023 through redefining India’s retail pharmacy landscape, Dr Paul lamented the fact that Indian awareness of generic medicine remains low.

“As awareness of generic drugs increases, ‘Davaindia’  the largest private generic pharmacy chain – has a substantial competitive advantage. Also, the comparative cost savings of upto 90% on medicine bills provided by Davaindia will be a significant factor,” he said. 

Focusing on the role of Zota Healthcare Ltd and Davaindia mission in the evolution of healthcare over the years, he also noted the rising costs due to inflation, changing facets and need for awareness about healthcare including generic medicines in India. 

Replying to media questions, Paul said generic medicines manufacture and quality control adheres to WHO-mandated, built-in Q.C processes while still giving the price benefit to the customer at a very little profit margin to its manufacturers.

“There is no compromise in our quality control, even though we operate on a very thin profit line yet through an AI module where profits can be managed,” he reiterated. 

Noting that Davaindia is the only private generic manufacturer in India that has its “own store” suppliers, he said the company’s 99-plus stores and 500 franchisees are meeting the consumers’ needs even as it continues expansion into A, B, C cities and rural areas.  “We understand the pain that +last-mile+ villagers in rural areas have to undergo for their medical needs, and we are therefore focusing on changing the pace of this ecosystem for supplying generic medicines,” he said, adding “The distribution network plays a critical role and so we have a Central Distribution network for this that keeps the cost structure as lean as possible.”
