Delhi-NCR’s first Multimodal Active Memory and Dementia Centre Launched in Gurgaon

New Delhi : Delhi- NCR gets its first state of the art active memory and dementia centre which was inaugurated on Sunday by Dr. N k Jain, Retd. Director Health, Government of Haryana in presence of  Sunita Duggal, Member of Parliament, Sirsa.

This memory and dementia centre will play a big role in the lives of individuals living with dementia and their families and will address the pressing challenges of dementia.   Doctors, trained psychologists and social workers will be at the forefront of addressing patients’ needs, providing empathetic and informed assistance.

This Memory and Dementia Centre will provide a comprehensive expert-led cognitive assessment platform for the elderly. The initiative is aimed at supporting families and persons with dementia through post-diagnostic care and support. While there is a huge dearth of memory clinics, psychiatrists, geriatricians and neurologists  in our country, this centre is  expected to help those with dementia and their families get timely diagnosis and expert advice for post diagnosis clinical management.

This Centre has been launched under “Bhul na Jana Campaign” which is  said to be India’s biggest campaign on Dementia awareness and management, which recently launched free national dementia helpline number 9818687903.

Dr. Praveen Gupta, renowned neurologist under whose advisory role this centre will function said “ Vata Vriksh Memory Centre will work for early diagnosis of Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s cases which remains under-diagnosed in elderly. The first part of the solution is to raise awareness and then make facilities accessible to more patients in need. This centre will offers comprehensive management of dementia including cognitive rehabilitation and caregiver support for persons with dementia. We are planning to open more such memory centres in future to manage dementia cases which is rising at a fast pace”.

Speaking at the event as a guest of Honour, Dr. N k Jain, Retd. Director Health, Government of Haryana   said, “I congratulate and thank team of doctors  for the launch of the first memory clinic in Gurgaon. These services will be of great boon and benefit to people with memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. Through this launch, we hope they feel a sense of comfort and support as they cope with their memory loss”

Sunita Duggal, Member of Parliament , Sirsa who was chief guest at the launch said “ Memory Centre like this will definitely help people affected with dementia. As cases of Dementia and memory loss is rising, we need more such centres in the Haryana. It is the need of the hour”.

This Centre has been named as  “Vata Vriksh ”and will be under the leadership of Dr. Ramesh Goyal and Dr. Deepti Goyal  who after rigorous training in senior care in United States, established “Vata Vriksh Centre” in Gurgaon.The Name is inspired by the life-sustaining qualities of the Banyan Tree (Vata Vriksh).
